Crossing the Kotte road across from Rampart Road, will lead you to Angampitiya Road. Towards the end of this road you will find remains of the western defenses of the city. Parts of the ramparts, and the remains of a bastion could be seen here. The remains of the ramparts have become convenient boundary walls for some residents, parts of which has been removed to gain access to the properties.
Proceed down this narrow lane till you come to a junction. In the lane leading to the left, you could find the remains of the Angampitiya Bastion and parts of the ramparts. On the lane to the right you can see a well preserved part of the ramparts.
A little beyond this is sighted the grounds that were used during the period for training in fighting techniques. Games of war practiced by the warriors, known as ‘Angam’ (or ‘Angam Pora’) has been popular at this venue. ‘Ange’ means body, ‘Pora’ signifies combat. These were fighting skills honed for combat, with or without weapons. Wrestling was also developed as a distinct science, and was known as ‘Malla Pora’. A pit measuring 25 feet by 3 feet deep termed the ‘Aka Vala’, filled with extracts of termite mounds mixed with sesame oil to render it soft and antiseptic has been used for combat.
