The old ‘Walawwa’ of Henry Fredrick de Fonseka still exists at 116/1 Horton Place, and is used by it’s present owners, Tudawe Brothers as a Warehouse. The Front of the house has been demolished, and the large garden which extended up to the road (where the above group photo was taken), now belongs to a residential block. Access to the property is from a narrow road, on the side of this block.
As evident from the photographs, the front porch including the beautiful trellis work, and the lower roof, has been completely demolished. Rest of the property too has been earmarked for demolition. Most of Henry Fredrick’s children and grand children were born in a room in this house.
